Wearable looks

Here are some interesting looks that I really like.  They aren't the flashiest you will see in New York, but they contain a lot of wearable inspiration -

Another great print

This is a unique print and hemline -

Her mom told me they got the fabric from Africa and had the skirt made for Fashion Week.

It looks like the whole family was well prepared for this event.

It's all in the details

It's relatively easy to make a statement with a loud print.  In something more subdued, you have to pay attention to the details - the fabric, the cut, the accessories.  At first glance, this outfit seems very simple (especially compared to the other outfits around her at Fashion Week).  But then you notice the shoulder pads, the gold belt buckle, the nude but very high heels.

It wasn't until I got home that I noticed the earrings.

Just the right amount of edge in an otherwise elegant outfit.

Heels

After focusing on flats, I need to give a little attention to the lovely heels and wedges that showed up to New York Fashion Week.  So, here are the feet that may have suffered a little for fashion -

Flats are gaining ground

In my opinion, one of the biggest benefits of the street style blogs has been to democratize fashion.  The blogs have given a strong voice to the person who doesn't want to follow the crowd or the mainstream fashion community.  For years, women have been saying they want to wear comfortable shoes, but designers continued to focus on heels.  The savvy subjects of the street style blogs have shown that flats can be cool, and the fashion community and designers are finally paying attention.  Flats were well represented at Fashion Week, and several designers are starting to use them in their shows.  Fashion is starting to reflect reality.
